Serial over IP
Serial over
IP refers to technology for
transmitting serial data
over packet-switched data
GSM/GPRS networks.
Historically, physical
connection was the only
method for establishing
serial communication.
Although reliable, physical
connection offers no
solution for long distance
serial communication. With
the R-Pipe you can establish
distance free communication
between DTE and DCE devices.
For instance, A PC located
in New-York can communicate
with PLC device located in
Miami, just as if they were
connected by serial cable.
Using Serial over IP solutions
you only need basic internet
connection (no static IP)
and the R-Pipe unit. Using
the common world wide
cellular network you can
connect remote devices
without any distance
limitation and data will be
transferred from one side of
the globe to the other side
easily.
General Info
Remmon
server-based Serial over IP
technology consists of the
R-Pipe (attached to PLC
device), internet server
running Remmon application
software and a computer with
internet communication
running Remmon Cell-Pipe
application software.
Serial over IP technology
based on 3 major components:
1. The
Cell-Pipe software
application is installs
at the client computer
and creates virtual
com (e.g. com 37).
Client software can use
virtual com as standard
com for serial
communication. On the
other side Cell-Pipe
establishes TCP/IP
communication (over the
internet) with Remmon
server for full data
transformation.
2.
R-Pipe contacts the
local device to receive
and transfer data using
RS232/485 connections.
Parallel the R-Pipe
creates TCP/IP
connection (with the
GSM/GPRS cellular
network) with Remmon
server that enables the
data transformation.
3.
Remmon server connects
between the cell pipe
software and the R-Pipe
on the field for data
transformation. The
server can easily be
managed via easy-to-use
web-based management
software. Using a
web-browser you can
login into the server,
monitor, configure and
manage all of your
connections.
The R-Pipe is an easy-to-use,
light weight and compact
GSM/GPRS Remote Terminal
Unit (RTU) that is both
versatile and easy to
operate.
